One Realisation
In 1970, the idea emerged that this mountain could eventually be used to build a golf course. At that time, there were only a few golf courses in Quebec and the idea of building a new one was a good one. So, the story begins in 1972 with the opening of the first 9 holes of the now famous St-Jean-de-Matha Golf Club. First "clubhouse", first 9 holes, first tournaments, first meals and history was being written. Two years later was born a complete course with 18 holes in the mountains. From 1975 to 1983, the main chalet was expanded three times, the 66-kilometre cross-country ski center was inaugurated, and the irrigation system was completed.
In 1984, the ink on the first page of history dried up with the transfer of power to his son Réal, already present on the site since 1974.
During the 85 to 89 transition, father and son renovated the starting greens on holes 2-6-14 and 17 and inaugurated the St-Jean-de-Matha Super-Glissades. The first page is now well written, and the other chapters promise to be thrilling.
From 1990 to 1996, the wind of youth hits the site! The Auberge du Pro opens its doors, the holes are redesigned, the computer is integrated, the 11th hole is inaugurated and will become a signature hole, condominiums appear, the Glissades ski lifts appear and finally, artificial snow makes its debut.
In 2002, the owner's intuition was put to the test! Despite the skeptics who will be confused, the Rafting side of the Glissades opens and attracts more than 100,000 people the first year. Réal was right...
Jonathan Salvas is named Ambassador of the Year 2022 by the "Association des Clubs de golf du Québec".
